Tips for Interviewing Agents

  1. Ask what kinds of jobs/auditions the agency would send you out for?

Also ask what kinds of jobs/auditions would you NOT be sent out for?

Ask what kinds of jobs/auditions the agency passes on/turns down altogether?

Is the Agency Low-Budget or Indie Friendly?
  2. What agency fee percentage is deducted from talent pay?
Is it the same on all types of work (Union vs. Non-Union, Commercials, Film, Industrials, Print)?
  3. What is their policy on extra work?
If you do film extra work (non-SAG), do they take an agency fee?
  4. Is the agent asking for money up front?
If so, what is it for?
    There should not be
any initial fee for representation. Are there any monies (other than agency
percentage) to be deducted from talent pay? Again, what for? If to cover expenses,
will you get a receipt at the end of the year?
  5. How many people within the agency would compete with you? (similar look,
    age range, expertise, etc?)
  6. Does the agency send out talent updates introducing new talent to clients   OR  Does the agency have a mailing list (casting directors, production companies, etc.) you can utilize for self-promotion?
  7. What is required in terms of training? Promotional Tools?
  8. Do you like them? Think you could have a long-term relationship with them?
Are they easy to reach? Return your phone calls? Answer your questions?
  9. If an agency has a website, check it out.  There may be references available.
