Talent FAQ
HOW CAN I GET AN AUDITION WITH YOU?
Projects I am casting are listed on web systems such as Casting Networks or Breakdown Services and these postings are released to talent agencies in the Texas region who submit actors they represent. I choose actors to audition from the agents’ submissions.
DO I NEED TO HAVE AN AGENT TO AUDITION?
It is better to have an agent advocating for you as I am most often looking for trained talent who are pursuing acting as a career. Traditionally professionals are found through talent agents &/or managers. However, there are times when I am able to audition independents:
-
If there is a role I am casting that requires a particularly hard-to-find type or specialized skill or when I am working with a director/producer who is open to developing new talent or wants to cast 'real people'. I will post the project info on sites where non-repped actors can submit themselves.
-
Additionally, my office will post the same information to the group on our Facebook page. Anyone who meets the criteria listed will be directed to an appropriate email address for submitting to the specific project.
DO I HAVE TO LIVE IN TEXAS TO AUDITION FOR YOUR PROJECTS?
Productions that shoot 'on location' want to take advantage of the tax rebates offered by the state. The same is true in Texas. To qualify for such funds, a studio is required to hire a certain number of locals for both cast and crew. In Texas, full-time residency must be proven through state-issued documentation. For this reason, I usually only audition Texas-based actors.
-
There may be exceptions made for performers who split their time between Texas and another location &/or have the ability to relocate; live in Texas for the duration of a production’s shooting schedule, but this is usually at the actor’s own expense. Any actor with this ability should seek representation in Texas for submission to regional breakdowns.
DO YOU ONLY CAST PROJECTS IN TEXAS?
I live in Texas and work almost exclusively within my state. However, I have cast several features in the neighboring states of Louisiana, Oklahoma, and New Mexico. Productions filming in nearby states often cast talent from Texas so it is in this type of regional situation when work takes me elsewhere.
DO YOU OFFER REPRESENTATION FOR ACTORS?
It is a conflict of interest for any casting director to act as a talent agent for an actor to potentially cast them in their projects. Casting directors are hired and paid by production companies or studios. It would be unethical for anyone who is not a talent agent or manager to collect commission from actors.
SHOULD I MAIL MY HEADSHOT TO YOUR OFFICE?
In this electronic age, my office no longer keeps headshots on file. There is no need to mail headshots in. However, when called for an audition, every actor is expected to bring headshots with attached, current resumes; most especially when coming in for a callback or director session.
HOW CAN I SEND INFORMATION TO YOU?
If you have pertinent information to share such as landing a new role in a production or an agency change or extensive work with an acting coach, please feel free to send a postcard to our office through the mail. I want to know what actors are working on and do read all materials sent to us.
-
If you have news that deserves immediate attention such as an invite to an upcoming theatre performance, film screening, workshop, or other event, you may email through this website.
-
Please know I cannot and do not respond to every email. There is simply not enough time in a day. I also kindly ask that you not email general inquiries or advertisements.
HOW CAN I GET EXTRA WORK ON YOUR PRODUCTIONS?
There is no need to send a photo or register to be "on file” anymore. When I have projects that my company is handling both the principal and background casting, we post what is needed for extras and stand-ins on our Facebook group. We usually only handle extras on feature films & commercials, but there are times when the need arises for music videos and television as well.
MAY I COME BY YOUR OFFICE TO MEET YOU?
It is not a good idea to stop into any casting director’s office without an appointment. When in the office, we are all usually working and unable to take time for general meetings. I also work on productions in multiple Texas cities, I am sometimes working at an alternate location and not in my regular office. Auditions are by appointment only as are meetings which are best scheduled through an agent, coach, or other similar referral.
